Hi,
I have a Win2K Pro machine and another person has a Win2k Pro machine. We
are both plugged into a hub, him wirelessly, myself with a cable. At one
point I was actually able to see his computer show up in my network
neighborhood, but now even that is gone. We both still have internet access
through a (the same) DSL router.

We simply want to be able to transfer files between us, and do not have a
domain controller. Each of our machines is set as a member of the workgroup
WORKGROUP, but neither of us can presently see the other's machine.

When I was able to see his machine, it was before I removed the old DNS
suffix for this computer (which was left over from when this machine was at
another company), but at that time I cuoldn't see his share and when I tried
to explicitly type in the shared folder name (proper UNC - \\machine\share)
and specify a user id/password that we created on his computer, it could not
find the share. Now neither of our machines can see the other. Any ideas?

Also, does a user id have to be created to get the share with, or is there a
simple way to make a wide open shared folder - available to everyone.

Thanks in advance.
- Mark

Added info:
It seems like there's something flaky going on related to the Linksys
wireless router. He's wireless, and changed his setting to 'Infrastructure'
from 'ad-hoc' and it looks like I can see his machine now, but I am still
unable to get a share, even when explciitly typing it in.

We are both getting IPs using DHCP from the DSL router.

I think we're going to move small files with a floppy for now.
