I seem to have lost my vertical text command.

Its not in the cusstomize - format toolbar ......

where are you old friend?

Lorry

You have not lost it, it remains as obscure as before.

If you are using WordArt, then Vertical text is an option.

If you want a textbox to use vertical text, then you need to ...
1) Use the {Enter} after each letter or
2) Resize the width of the box to force a line wrap at the end of each
letter.

I'm not sure there ever was a vertical text command in Powerpoint. I don't have one. You may be thinking of buttons that accomplish this in Excel and Word. In any case, in Powerpoint, you can type the text that you want displayed vertically into a text box (from the Drawing Toolbar), then rotate it at whatever angle you wish, including vertical, using the rotation handle.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

The "Vertial Text Box" and "Change text direction" tools are only available
in certain language editions of PowerPoint (such as Japanese) or if you
have added supported for a language requiring vertical text boxes to the
English version of PowerPoint through the use of the Multilingual User
Interface (MUI) Pack.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/language/availability.mspx

The MUI Pack is not available as a stand-alone product. Instead, it is
included in 3 English-language versions of Office 2003 Editions:

* Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 with MUI Pack.
* Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 with Microsoft FrontPage® with
MUI Pack.
* Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 with MUI Pack.

A MUI Pack is only available through Microsoft Open License, Select
License, or Enterprise Agreement Volume Licensing programs, and not through
retail stores.
