Vertical Text Placement - Spaces or Escape Chars

Trying to perform vertical text placement. I notice when I enter multiple
lines of text, I can get the text to scroll up or down. Thus, I tried
entering multiple blank lines of text (or lines with a space), but it didn't
force my text to move up or down.

Is ther a way to do this such as entering escape chars or something.
