I have developed an application using Access 2002 but I wish to implement it
as an MDE file on machines running Access 2000. The Make MDE function in
Tools tells me that I can only make an MDE for the current version. Is
there any way, short of going to buy a totally redundant version of the
programme, to create an Access 2000 MDE file using Access 2002?

Any help very appreciated.

Sorry, No.

Hi,

Thanks for at least giving me the bad news. Any idea why this should be so?
It's a real pain as many organisations are still on Access 97 never mind
2000 so it seem crazy that developers need a copy of every version.

I don't know of any MS program that compiles code in a previous version,
except maybe VB4 which compile in either 16 or 32 bit. The least expensive
overhead for a developer is new software. I spend less than $5K a year on
new software and books. That's less than any bill I have except for
electricity and possibly new hardware.

I do own multiple licences for every edition of Access since version 1.0.
You are correct that there are many organizations using earlier versions,
but developers need to have everything their clients have. Most of my
clients have 2002, but a few still have earlier versions. I keep Access 2.0,
97, 2000, 2002, and a beta of 2003 available as needed.
