I created a file in ppt 2000 with a template. Someone
else opened it in 2003 and returned it to me via email,
the template could only be seen in the masterslide view.
How can I correct this?

I'm not sure what you mean by the template could only be seen in master slide view.

Do you mean that now in PPT 2000, the images on your master are no longer showing up on the slides?

The ppt was originally created in v2000 and in all slide
views the design template appears. I sent it via email to
another person who opened in in v20003. Once it was
returned to me and repoened in v2000, the design template
could only be seen in the slide master view. I could add
new slides to the presentation and the template would
show but I could not make it reappear on the other
slides. I hope this was clearer.

Could the other person have inserted extra masters (versions 2002 and
2003 allow for multiple masters)? Can you get that person to turn off
the multiple masters feature (Tools menu, Options, Edit Tab, under
Disable New Features), and save the presentation again?
