Is it possible to display the version automatically in a
document? I want to save a version and call it Version
1.0 in the version comments field, then display the
comments in the document.

I'm not sure what the version comments field is. It may be a part of the
versions feature (which I never use because it bloats files).

What I do is create a custom document property called Version and assign it
a number. To display the version in the document (usually in the footer) I
include a DOCPROPERTY Version field. I use save as to save separate versions
as separate documents. Before making changes in a document / template for
which I use this kind of versioning, I use File => Save As and save to a
name with the current version number appended. I then close and reopen the
original document. I change the version number in the document properties
and start making my changes.

I stow the old versions in an archival folder.

This may not answer your question. I hope it helps.

Thanks Charles
There are probably a few ways to handle this. I had not
used docproperties before. I wonder if anyone else has a
solution?
