For some reason, my machine running XP home SP1, has started trying to find veritas update manager on CD on boot up. I can't find where it is triggered from. The only way to kill it is via the task manager .Has anyone any ideas?

Add/remove programs. Could be called various names, Veritas, Stomp, Sonic, what burning program do you have installed? Look for that name, i.e. "xxxxxxxxxxx" update manager. Uninstall it.

This takes either startup group link removal, or (gulp)
registry editing. The Update manager is missing components
or hasn't been installed, but has some keys in the registry.
Try local machine/software/Microsoft/windows/current
version/run.

Another approach is to use registry scanner /repair tools to
locate any bad entries, then write these down. You can do
partial repair if the program isn't bought. (So look for a
good freeware scanner)
