Agreed :-). Who wants their long-term solution. Not me. Keep it off.

It's about time. Hope it's permanent.

I like the way they say there:
"is no data to indicate that the core operation of the Domain Name System or
stability of the Internet has been adversely affected."

With all the hoopla and complaints, you would think they are closing both
eyes to it?

Russell Lewis' argument is that all of those complaints are
"anecdotal and isolated". I think that this is a case of a
new conjugation: "I have data", "you have anecdotes". Notice
that Russell Lewis asserts that SiteFinder "has been well
received by millions of Internet users". I suspect that his
data supporting that are far shakier (Web page hits do not
signify approval, after all.) than the data that ICANN and
others have to support the assertion that the privacy and
operation of most Internet services has been affected.

Yep, hope they open both eyes and ears to the community to keep it OFF!!

Does anyone have a good list of the problems that were caused by Verisign's
sitefinder service?

It might be useful ammunition to keep it from returning.
Thanks

Yes. At least two people have.

I have one.

IAB has another.

_The Register_ has some anecdotes, such as "Verisign broke my printer".

I agree. Two different viewpoints, one with Russel Lewis, the other with the
industry.

Also, all those "hits", being mistyped URLs, actually gave them a count of
the prospective advertising numbers were they to keep SiteFinder.

They just won't stop will they?
Not only will they not stop, their reply suggests that they want to
replace the IETF with themselves, at least for DNS-related topics.
Given the kind of work they've done, and the kind of work the IETF
has done, I'd rather leave the IETF in charge of standards.

Hope they don't get that far! They've messed things up enough with what
happened last month. Could only imagine what they would do if they took over
the IETF.
