Hi,
Im using Compaq Presario S5180AP
Recently, I found out that my computer have been working slowly...
So i touched the back of the computer to find it damn hot..

So I wondering if there is a way to speed up the fan inside the computer
without changing it?

If the Compaq has no addaitional options in the unit's BIOS / CMOS
settings, then you need to replace it.

BTW: Compaq parts are usually unique. You usually need need to
replace with original parts.

If the fan is moving slowly due to crud build-up, then clean the fan;
both blades and housing. And, clean the air filters on the inlet and
the screens on both inlet and outlet of the box. Also, blow out the CPU
heatsink.

awww man.

If i need to clean it..
then i do not think that my mum would allow me to clean it~~
cos' my mum think that if i dismantle it, i will not put back.
so, never mind.

Thanks

That is your fan in your Power Supply (PS). At this point cleaning it out will not
do since the dirt is probably already inside the motor housing. A new fan costs
about $5 and if you are mechanically inclined a bit then changing the fan inside the
PS will solve the problem. You can of course change the PS which costs about $35-50.
Tell your Mom if this is not done it can possibly do harm to the computer to the
extent that it will need to be changed by purchasing another new one.

Is the $30-$50 to pay a computer shop to blow out the dust (and wipe
the crud off the fan blades) more costly than eventually having to
replace the entire laptop because you/her let it burn up from excessive
heat? Dust, pet hair, and carpet lint are heat insulators. That means
they won't let the heat dissipate from the electronic components.

Why not just ask her what she wants to do? Obviously it's her
property. You think you are doing her a favor by NOT telling her of the
problem? Mom and you have issues?

Changing moniker does not help you. You are a complete nutcase. The OP's post has
everything to do with XP HARDWARE if you read the name of the newsgroup correctly.
Go away and Go get a life and stop posting the same thing over and over again all
the time

Look, it's Old Duke aka CaptAmerica aka <yet-another-nymshift> aka
<no-one-gives-a-fart-about-the-hardware-neophyte>. And we were getting
nostalgic for boobs that post about hardware of which they've never
touched, repaired, built, or even read about.

I've yet to see RAM sticks, CPUs, hard disks, mobos, or other hardware
components actually have "Windows XP" stamped on it. Oh yeah, like the
hardware that runs Windows XP could never run a different OS, uh huh.
Hmm, must be the computer this boob uses to run Windows XP doesn't have
any fans because, gee, all computer fans have "Linux" stamped on them
and cannot be used in a Windows XP host.

This boob's expertise in working with hardware is replacing the
batteries in his condom-covered vibrating anal dildo. And, of course,
it has "Windows XP" stamped on it.

Ignore our resident mentally retarded 13 year old ****wit.

Your question is entirely welcome in this *Hardware* newsgroup.

His knowledge of hardware of any description is (based on the sum total of
any pearls of wisdom actuall posted) is non existent.

He has *never* posted anything which contains the merest hint of technical
content.

He also only posts when Mummy allows him to, if he finishes his homework
early.

Wrong on all counts.

The question here involved nothing but generic hardware that is
nonspecific to a particular OS - which, in this group's case is XP.
So read the group title and put it all together - questions or
comments about hardware involved with WindowsXP. This question has
nothing to do with XP.

I haven't changed my name here in MONTHS, but nice try.

6 weeks to be exact - nothing like 'months', except in your mentally
retarded world.#
OH, and I'm 44 and have had years of experience in IT, networking, and
building computers from the case up.

Liar. Your posting style and delusional obsession gives you away. that you
are a mental retard is not in doubt as your obsessions are a classic
symptom.

Your posting style is entirely consistent with that of a mentally retarded
13 year old.
Care to play again? If so, move it elsewhere. Your rant has nothing
to do with XP so is out of place here. Maybe you and Mi5 could share
a room.

Why should anybody move anything elsewhere? Everyone else seems perfectly
happy that these questions are asked in *this* newsgroup. Doesn't it seem
strange to you that everyone is perfectly happy - except *one* resident
mentally retarded 13 year old ****wit.

Why don't you do everyone a favour and play elsewhere.

And just WHAT hardware *is* specific to only Windows XP? Name ANY
hardware that cannot be used with a different OS. Remember, we're
talking HARDWARE here, not software (like drivers). Hmm, so everything
in your computer is stamped with "Windows XP" and you were so stupid to
believe it. Uh huh.

Ah, so you DO admit to changing it. So May 3 is "MONTHS" ago. Well,
yeah, that would be 2 months.
OH, and I'm 44 and have had years of experience in IT, networking, and
building computers from the case up.

Sure you are. We all believe whatever you claim, uh huh. Apparently
you couldn't make it in any particular field.
Care to play again?

Care to publicly exhibit your stupidity again? Come on, show us that
Windows XP-only hardware, p-u-h-l-e-a-s-e, pretty please.
If so, move it elsewhere. Your rant has nothing to do with XP

Neither did yours.
so is out of place here.

You've been out of place everywhere trying to pretend you know
anything.

There's never a mine field around when you need one.

WHat a maroom you are. I never said anything about hardware "specific
to the OS." I said the group title indicates it is a place to post
questions about hardware and it's interaction with the XP OS. Of
course you can read anything else into that you want, but that's all I
said.

And you are the *ONLY* person saying it. Your rantings are not welcome in
this or any other newsgroup and many have stated so.

So do the world a favour and die.
What do all those jobs have in common? One particular field: IT. It
encompasses networking, working on the hardware, software, the works.

Maybe. But what does any of it have to do with a 13 year old retarded
****wit?
After this I think everybody can see who the stupid one really is, and
it isn't me. And who has stooped to name calling? Not me. I explain
my case rationally, and you lash out. Let me guess - you are probably
one of those people who think their correct Cell Phone bill is wrong
and call screaming and yelling at the CS rep about it, right? I could
be wrong of course, but your online persona says differently.

Now join Mi5 in your little padded room I've set aside for you.

Don't be ****wit all your life.

Have a day off occasionally

Did you even read the original post? Did it even address whatever OS
was installed in a partition in one of the hard disks? No, it asked
about fan speed and heat. The same problem would occur even if the user
never even booted the Windows XP residing on that host. Does the fact
that the OP could boot into Windows XP have anything to do with the heat
buildup due to hardware problems? Obviously not. Does the fact that
the OP did or did not boot into Windows XP address his question or a
resolution? No. But, gee, he does use Windows XP so feel assuaged that
this OS was involved somewhere on that host although it had nothing to
do with the hardware question.

So here is a user of Windows XP asking about problems with his hardware
and you claim his post is off-topic. Look back at your prior canned
replies. Has anyone agreed with your assessment for the use of this
newsgroup? This is NOT your newsgroup. If you want to be an admin or
moderator, go start your own forum or run your own NNTP server to run
your own private (non-peered) groups. No one will visit them because
they'll always be off-topic and suffer your irrational Iron Claw policy.
