Is there a free standalone utility for writing VBS scripts? I'm looking for
something similar to the VBA (I guess it is) functionality for scripting
macros in Excel and Word, but usable independently. Thanks.

Will this suit?

Thanks for the suggestion. It doesn't seem to do the real-time syntax error
notification and keyword help during keyboard entry like the macro editor,
but it beats Notepad. Microsoft itself doesn't have such a standalone
utility, eh?

Nope, not that I'm aware of at any rate and someone probably would have
pointed that out to me by now.
