From one technewbe to another, AGV is not so good at
stopping worms or viruses. I had the free AVG on my
Notebook with Win XP and got the Blaster Worm Saturday. I
upgraded AVG weekly. Forget AGV and go to Norton Antivius.
Hope this helps

I agree with you about NAV, but not about AVG.....I use both without
conflict. Both are set to scan daily at different times. Both have detected
viruses the other has missed. Also, anti virus programs are not designed
prevent a virus from getting into your system. A firewall, (hardware or
software.....Norton's Personal Firewall is excellent), are the tools to use
for that. AV's alert you when an email virus is present.....quarantine or
isolate it so that you can begin the removal, healing and repair process
either from within the AV itself or, point you toward a removal tool from
the AV's parent website. Something else to consider would be some type of
spam filter that allows you to preview your mail on the server before you
download. I had an incident today where a piece of mail contained this
W32/SoBig.f worm....the spam filter marked the mail as a possible virus,
allowing me to delete it before it got anywhere near my system. Check out
www.mailwasher.net , it's a free program. Overkill???......maybe. But with
the multitudes being caught off guard by Blaster, the more layers of
security you have, the better.
