My dial-up connection sometimes hangs up and has to re-connect. The VB2005
installer/downloader apparently doesn't know how to resume when the
connection is re-established. It just aborts!

I've wasted many hours on this.

Can the whole package be obtained at once with a "smart" download manager
instead of having to use the VB2005 installer?????

At present, the answer is no, at least from what I can discern. You can
download some items separately, like the .NET Redist or SDK. That may solve
the problem. The beta 1 of Visual Studio will be available to order shortly,
unless something changed. I am not sure about Express products.

Not sure where on MS site it is. But it appears to be the VB Setup itself,
and not just the bootstrapper. Still need to download .NET Framework 2.0
separately. (And SQL Express as I understand).

Actually, by looking at my Norton Security logs, I found this:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/f/5/3f52b37c-92a4-4ce0-9de0-0376165e5461/vbsetup.exe

This is a 34.1 MB download, which seems to be the whole VB2005 Express
package. I'm downloading it now, and will see what happens when I try to
install it.
