Hi all

Is it nessassary or of any value to convert access front ends to VB? I wish
to develope and sell software so knowing from the start would help. Also I
have a number of commercial access databases, is it possible to purchase a
conversion to VB tool?

Thanks all

In addition to what Wayne mentioned, Tony Toews lists a number of products
that purport to be able to do this at
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/accesstovb.htm However, the general
consensus is that all of these products do an incomplete job at best.

There are simply too many differences between the controls available for
forms in Access and those available in VB to make conversion a
straight-forward process.

Thank you. That's great

What would you say are the recognised advantages of converting to VB?

The biggest advantage in my mind is a smaller distribution package with
VB...making your app more friendly to download. It could also be argued
that VB allows for more flexibility in the design of the UI. Also, the
number of ActiveX controls that are compatible with VB might be an
advantage. Reliably distributing/installing a VB app is far more
straightforward than Access. But for the most part, you'll just write far
more code in VB to do the same things that Access does by design. From a
rapid development standpoint, Access has an definite advantage. This is
really a comparison of apples and oranges...which is better depends on the
consumer.

Thank you!
