Variable Field Name in report!

Is this possible? I have a report and the data source is a "Crosstab Query".
The column headings in the query is a date range--that could be different
each time the report is run. When I built the report I had two columns for
dates because the "Crosstab Query" created two date columns. When I changed
the data in the "Crosstab Query", the query worked just fine, but the
report's date fields did not refresh as the query's did. Is it possible to
have the date fields in the report change automatically to match the current
fields in the query? Secondly, the date columns in the query is text, not
formated as dates. How can I always keep the prior year date in the first
column on the report and the current year date as the second column in the
report? Thanks in advance.

Crosstabs are always problematic when used as a record source for a report.
Both Duane Hookom and I have taken a stab at addressing the problem. Look
at these samples:

Don,
Would you mind sharing your SQL? What are your date intervals as column
headings? Are you willing to create a crosstab report with a set number of
columns (different start or end dates allowed)?
