I bought this very efficient cooler after a review I read on tom's.
However the fan mounted on top of the CPU makes a noticeable
vibration. When it speeds up to it's some 4000 rpms it starts to shake
back and forth, oscillate I think, and it both makes an low but
audible drone, it creates vibrations in the cabinet I can feel when I
touch it. The drone and the vibration created is not huge. Its
noticeable and slightly concerning. The vibration in sound reminded me
of the same kind you can hear from a cd-rom disc with an excentric
center when it is spinning around in your drive at great speed, just
less intense.

So I sent it back to the dealer and they didnt replace it but refunded
my money. So now I am unsure if that was how Vantecs normally are, or
if I was out of luck on that particular product. I want to hear if
anyone
else have noticed this with this cpu fan/cooler solution?

I've heard
that this particular problem can be very unhealthy for your cpu in the
long run.

I'm using the 7040 in two P4C800-E builds. They are vibration free and
relatively quiet.
Sounds like you got a bad one,or one that was damaged.

I also had a AeroFlow on a P4P800 (had being the operative word). The
vibration was unreal, and no matter what I did I couldn't eliminate it. It
was particulary annoying due to the fact that I am using a Lian-Li (all
metal) case and it awoke every resonance in the thing.

The only way to make it partially tolerable was to scale back rpm's with
q-fan, but at the 11/16 speed it didn't cool much better than stock HSF and
was still considerably louder.

I really liked the construction quality, but not the noise....

2.4C at stock speeds
My cpu temp at idle with stock fan: 27 degrees
My cpu temp underload with stock fan 39 degrees (tops)

Mark, I can only conclude that you had a defective unit. My AeroFlow
makes nothing more than a pleasant little hum. That's why I threw
away my GlobalWin cooler with the Delta fan and switched to the
AeroFlow. I have not regretted it a bit.
For other readers, I'd consider these two reports of noise and
vibration as anecdotal because I don't think they are in any way
representative of the performance of this cooler. For the majority
opinion, go to the Vantec Web site or do a Google search on it and
follow the links to the many reviews praising it highly.
