Vanishing Harddrive

I have 3 hard drives in my computer (C,D, and F) and
lately the F drive disappears without warning, even when
it is in use. This computer has been fine for the past
year, so I have no clue what could be wrong. When I click
the "scan for hardware changes" button, it finds the
missing hard drive and then after an hour it disappears.

At first I thought it may be a lack of power as a friend
put too many devices in his computer and his drives
started disappearing without warning. But I only added 2
small fans for extra cooling within the past month and
its only been recently that the F drive and only the F
drive disapears.

I'm assuming this is a XP fault since I have nothing else
to go on. Does anyone know what is going on?

I would still suspect the power supply - they do degrade especially i
they are at their limit

Try reseating the cable connected to the hard drive. Also
make sure that the drive jumpers are set for slave. How
old is the drive? It's possible that something on the
drive circuit board may be starting to fail.
