Vanished download

My op. system is Windows XP SP2. Browser IE6. Broadband internet connection.
I just dowloaded a-squaredfree from their website. When the dowload ended the
pop-up window closed on its own even though I had not checked the box for
this. When I went to the folder where I had downloaded (!) the file it just
wasn't there.

This has kept occuring with all downloads in the last few days.

I have no problems surfing the net.

When prompted, save the file to your desktop for easy retrieval later for
installation.

is invalid that we may all benefit.
 
Remove Windows Defender. Haven't had time to figure out what's going on,
but I had the same problem.
