Vanished Desktop Icons in Windows XP Home

Help anyone. Today all of my desktop icons vanished. I still have
task bar icons. I have tried running checkdisk & defraged my hard
drive. I am at a loss what I need to do to revive my icons.

Thanks anonymous, but that was the first place I went to solve this
problem. All of the desktop icons simply vanished in an instant,
leaving only the wallpaper and the Roxio Drag and Drop app. I have
also tried, to no avail, to place shortcuts on my desktop form the
program folder.

Two suggestions:

Try: Right click on the desktop, choose "Arrange Icons by", and make sure
"Show Desktop Icons" is checked.

if that doesn't work, TweakUI has a few good repair tools.

Thank You for your response JB. I tried your suggestions which did
not help matters. Something I find very strange is that I have my
desktop set up as a Toolbar on my Taskbar. When I click on the
Desktop button on the Taskbar, all of my icons are in the pop-up
menu, and those shortcuts work fine. I just unable to get them to
display on my desktop. I have TweakUI. I'll see if it can aford any
answers.

Have you tried System Restore?
