"Valued Accounts" Hotmail access in Outlook 2007

Synapse Syndrome

I really do not like Windows Mail, and I am thinking of moving to using
Outlook for all my email now. I will have to find some other program for
newsgroups. I am currently using Outlook Express on an older computer with
XP.

My two Hotmail accounts were made back in 1997, so they are listed as
'valued accounts' so OE access is still possible even though I am not
subscribing.

Will these accounts continue to work in Outlook 2007, if I switch to using
that? If so, will there be adverts added or any other usablity problems
that I may encounter compared to OE?

Thanks.

Mine didn't, though it had previously worked fine through Outlook XP and
2003...

See the thread of today in microsoft.public.outlook.general where one of the
MVPs confirms that only paid memberhsip Hotmail accounts are accessible
through Outlook 2007...

Oh more bad news. Either I'll have to pay for Hotmail Plus or turn to
Thunderbird.

Thanks.

I have a Gmail account as well as fastmail POP3/IMAP accounts, but these
Hotmail accounts are my personal email accounts that I set up nearly a
decade ago. The fact that they are so old and I get email from long lost
friemds and such makes them irreplaceable.

I'm thinking of getting them combined somehow, and then I will only have to
pay one subscription. Or possibly I can get the mail forwarded to another
account (without them closing because of not logging into them) may be
another thing for me to look into.

My legacy Hotmail/ MSN.com account migrated to Outlook 2007 without any
problems. No adverts or any such problems.

Consider yourself a lucky one, then.

Worked for me too!

Woohoo!

Well, my legacy Hotmail account still works in Outlook 2007 (IMAP works fine), but I switched it over to hotmail popper (an awesome program btw, when it works); my email downloads are so slow. A 10k email takes about 5 minutes. It's like a 300 baud modem.

Aw come on, Milly, you're an Outlook MVP so you should know that
grandfathered hotmail/msn accounts such as ours will work with Outlook 2007.

What's not clear, though, is why it's so slow (see Tim's post to this
thread, I second his post) and often doesn't connect at all.
I have changed my msn password to the wrong one, restarted Outlook and
changed it back, then performed the settings test to make sure it's OK, then
when the Accounts applet is closed Outlook suddenly can't connect to it.
What's even more silly is that at the same time Outlook will connect to my
hotmail account and deliver the daily spam without error, albeit very slowly.

Do you know of any setting (only God and MVPs can accurately navigate
Outlook's options applet) that might possibly have an effect on either
problem?

Why yes, I do know that they will work in Outlook 2007, but I also know from personal experience that some grandfathered accounts no longer work with Outlook 2007. YMMV

Milly

I find that my MSN "legacy account" works fine with Outlook 2007 running on
Win XP. It does not work on Outlook 2007 running on Win Vista either with or
without the Outlook Connector installed.
It also appears that there is no way to contact anyone through the MSN
support page to bitch about this issue.
Any suggestions about who to contact at MSN?
