Formual being used is as basic at it gets.

+f2+h2+j2+l2+n2+p2
2 5 6 7 8

Condition:

Spreadsheets are being received from a wide range of
sources. In some cases it looks like cells (computational
felds) have been changed before I receive the spreadsheet.

As result, where a cell is blank the above formula shows
#VALUE! instead of a total = 28.
 
Did u try going to that "empty" cell and pressing delete? Make sure theyre
formatted as #s.

You are better off using SUM here because it doesn't seem to mind cells that
contain text that aren't numbers (such as the space you likely have in that
cell).

It's also possible that one of those numbers has an invisible numeric
character (and not a space)-- I can only think of one--following the number.
