Validation rule on controls

Uzed to be, if I typed "Y" or "N" in the default
values of a control, the only values accepted were those
two characters. You could not "tab" over the control into
the next field (you could of course, escape out of it or
use the mouse). End user received the Validation text
message if they tried to tab out.

In Access XP, if I type "Y" or "N" in the Validation Rule,
you can tab right through the control anyway, no message,
nothing. Need to stop the user from getting out of the
control unless they type "Y" or "N"
Is this new?

AFAIK the validation rules have *always* required you to actually enter
something before they kick in.
