I have had a valid version of windows xp for a year and was anoyed with
having to validate, after much of my time and three attempts XP validated.
All OK!
Not so. Still comes up with not valid XP version message has changed some of
my settings, won't accept cookies I don't know what else it has changed. I
have been very carefull not to get a virus but is this validation process a
form of virus? I don't like the Idea of programs changing my computer with
out my informed consent.
It is annoying to have pop up messages that have loaded themself into my
computer.

I'm not exactly sure what your problem is--Microsoft has changed the
validation ("Genuine Windows") process several times during the period you
mention. In addition, besides the cookie issue you mention, Active X is
used. To me enabling Active X is of itself a fairly risky thing to do.

It seems that Microsoft is moving more and more towards a windows
configuration that allows/supports a (Send us money, do what we say, or we
disable Windows) software model.
