I cannot get XP Pro on my Vaio to work with any of my CF cards. I
have two new Dazzle CF usb readers (DM-8000) and everything works
perfectly with XP Pro on my MicroX. (The two PCs are configured
identically.) But none of the same hardware works right when plugged
into a Vaio port. The ports are OK, as they all work the Kodak camera
(DX3500) just fine.

On the Vaio, XP "sees" and labels the reader/CF as G:, but not
for long. When I try to see what pictures are on the card, the card
is no longer recognized.

The cards are 48 & 64MB; too big for the Vaio??????

Sony is no help, nor Dazzel, nor the CF folks.

Can anyone please direct me to a solution?

Thanks much.

The CF cards are not too large. Do you see any errors in Event Viewer
Logs? Do you have the power savings check box enabled on the root hub?
From Device Manager, expand the view to show hidden devices. Are there
multiple entries for the card reader? Delete these, reboot. You might
try removing the USB Root Hub and then the Host Controller, and let XP
reinstall them on the next boot. Have you checked with Sony support for
driver updates? Lastly, are do you have admin rights on the computer?
Are you using an external hub?

Q

1. Event Viewer has repeated warnings, probably related, saying "An
error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging
operation." But no clue what this is telling me to do to fix it.
Does it make sense to you?

2. Desktop & no power savings to enable on the root hub.

3. Deleted duplicate generic storage volumes but no help.

4. Removed root hub and host controller & let XP reinstall them. No
help.

5. XP fully updated, & includes all drivers. Sony has no XP drivers.

6. Sony not able to help any way/shape/form. Nor Dazzle nor
CompactFlash.

7. I operate as admin.

8. No external hub.

HELP!!! & thanks.

Found later this probably (maybe?) NOT related. I keep my swap file
on D: drive, and it's time to defrag again. Or so other discussions
suggest.
