Is there a free utility to save flash files when browsing with
Opera?

Jane,

In Linux the Opera browser caches downloaded *.swf files in
/home/user/.opera/cache4.

If you look in (I'd guess) C:\Program Files\Opera\Cache4 you should find
the *.swf files. Copy them elsewhere before closing Opera.

Good Luck

You don't need one: From the menu Window > Special > Cache then scroll
down to the item (file with .swf extension) and right-click it and
select "Save target as...". I find it easier to find a file in the
cache if I empty it before going to the page that loads the item I want
to save. To do that you need to go to Preferences (alt+P) > History and
cache > Disk cache > click on the Empty now button then OK.

HTH,

Tony

In Opera 7.5 it is Tools/Advanced/Cache

The menues in Opera have been re-organized compared to earlier versions.

Using Proxomitron with Opera, there is a filter in the JD5000Advanced set
that makes flash click to play, it also ads a link under the flash content
to save it.
