I am looking for something that will locate files from a previous OS after
an upgrade so they can be removed. An organization I volunteer at has a
couple of boxes updated from W98 to W2K and we need to clean out the dead
wood from any archived files, old CAB,. etc to free up some space.

Not sure about the upgrade to W2K, but when I upgraded from W98 to WinME
the upgrade procedure left an entry in Control Panel-Add/Remove programs
to remove the 'backup' of the Win98 OS. Once I was sure that my upgrade
was stable, then I used this option to remove the backup and free disk
space.

WinME stores the installation files in c:\windows\options\install and all
the Win98 installation files were also on my HD ( from memory in c:
\windows\options\cabs ) so I deleted them as well, freeing another 150+Mb

Hope that helps.

I am aware of how that worked with Win98, but there is nothing in Control
Panel with these upgrades. As an upgrade, the installation maintained the
C:\Windows location rather than C:\WINNT which would have been normal. The
c: \windows\options\cabs folder does have the old Win98 cabs but before I
delete it wholesale, (and given the install in C:\Windows as noted) I want
to be sure that W2K didn't ALSO stuff anything somewhere in that path.
