Using XP recovery console to fix USB 2 ills

I have an intermittent problem with my XP Pro, SP1
installation on a nforce2 system. My two external USB
2.0 drives fail to get recognized periodically. I have
yet to figure out what is the catalyst for the problem.
When I'm lucky I can boot in safe mode, uninstall the pci
to usb host controller, and the devices will be
reinstalled. When I'm not lucky, I can go days before
they decide they want to work again. I've contacted both
the drive maker and mobo maker and both told me to
reinstall the MS USB 2.0 driver w/the recovery console.
Neither, of course, told me how the heck I'm supposed to
do that! If the USB 2.0 driver is not available on the
retail CD, then how does one copy it from a service pack
that was installed via Windows Update?

The USB 2 drivers are part of the SP1 pack. If the SP1 is separate from
your CD, then you will need to re-install the SP1.

Here is one tip on fixing USB problems after SP1

1) Make sure that the latest chipset drivers are installed

2) Remove all USB ports/hubs/devices from Device Manager

3) Reboot Windows XP. Windows XP should then re-install the USB ports and
hubs (especially the root hubs!).

4) Re-install anny/all USB device drivers.

Thank you. How do you reinstall SP1?
