Hi. I have a spare box (P4, 512MB, 80GB, XP Pro) that I'm planning to use
as a file server (dhcp via Netgear router to 4 client PCs).

Is there anything special I should do to maximize the performance of this
"file server" to give it the best performance on the network? The only
thing I've done so far is to turn off a few services and set the system to
high performance with minimal graphics (not sure how much that really
matters...).

The only software on this server (besides the standard install of XP) is
Norton AV 2003 and Diskeeper, which defrags every morning at 3:AM.

TIA

John

manually set the network card to "100mbps, full duplex".

you may want to enable offline file support as well, so there's less access.
