I need to make an XP Pro box, with a local network card,
and a modem function as a router, so that two other
machine on the local network can access the internet
though this one machines modem.

I turned on IP forwarding on this machine, however the
other local machines cannot browse the internet, even
though I specified the default gateway correctly.

Any suggestions would b appreciated!!!

Why dont you set up ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on
the xp pro box that has the modem attached. It will share
the internet to the 2 other machines.

I agree ICS is a much better option than routing. Disable IP forwarding and
enable ICS.
