Using Windows Mail for e-mail and Outlook for Calendar

In reading all of the posts, I don't see an answer to this, nor do I see that
it is possible. I just got Windows Vista and would like to use Windows Mail
for my e-mail and Outlook for my appointments, tasks, reminders, etc. I have
always used Outlook Express for e-mail in the past along with Outlook for all
my appointments without a problem, but I can't seem to do the same with the
new version. I don't like the e-mail view in Outlook, and want to have it
running in the back with Windows mail as my default e-mail. Does anyone have
an answer? Thanks.

I also just had to upgrade and now use windows mail. I like outlook better.
In windows mail on the tol bar there is a button fror calendar and contacts.
It is simular to outlook. I just could not see spending the money to buy
another outlook version. I hate it when they come out with an OS tjhat is not
backwards compatible.

What exactly is it doing or not doing that you don't like?
There should be no barrier to using Windows Mail for email,
and Outlook for appointments, etc.

I went to MS and downloaded a patch. It was a hot fix. I just restarted and
checked it. The one message that could not be deletes was now alowed to be
deleted.

I have set Windows Mail as my default mail program, yet my e-mails keep going
back into Outlook after I shut down my computer and start up again, i.e.,
this morning I started up and all my e-mails were in Outlook. I set the
defaults Friday, and it was working fine. I wondered over the weekend why I
wasn't getting any e-mail (Windows Mail). I opened Outlook today, and they
were all in there. I re-set the defaults this morning and am getting the
e-mail in Windows Mail currently, but have not restarted to see if these
settings will hold. I'll do that now. Thanks for your reply.

OK, but I don't see what that has to do with the post you quoted.

Setting a default does not prevent any other email program from
fetching the mail. There should be a setting in Outlook to tell it *not*
to fetch mail, or you can disable or remove that account from
Outlook.

Gary sorry for the mis post. I had 2 issues going on.

The new vista mail will do most of what outlook did. It does does contacts
appointments and reminders as well as mail.
I personally would rather have outlook but am not willing to spend the $$
for another outlook just for vista.
If you want you can email me direct at (e-mail address removed) or
(e-mail address removed)

OK. Just wanted to make sure you were squared away.

Sorry I'm just now replying. That did work. Thanks for your help. I just
had to remove my e-mail account from Outlook so that it would quit grabbing
the e-mail as well as Outlook Express. Thanks again.
