Using Windows 98 SE cd to qualify for WinXP upgrade version

I decided to build my first computer, and am going to put Windows XP on
it. Since the new computer doesn't have an OS on it, is it possible to
use the Windows 98 SE cd to qualify for the upgrade version of Windows
XP, or would I need to buy the full version? I don't really want to
spend an extra $100 on the full version, considering Linux would always
be a cheaper option. Either way, if I could use the upgrade version,
would I be able to use it if I only have one CD drive? Thanks in
advance for any help

Absolutely you can do this with an upgrade version and one CD drive. See
detailed information here:

Yes, you can. Its also a pain if you have to do a clean or repair install.
You need both CDs available. Don't waste your time.
