I got the general idea as to how to set up Win2000 as a FTP Server from
Microsoft. I need to know of any good sites that explains how users can
upload files as well as download them, or is this possible?.

All the best,
SG

Lots of different ways you can do this... install IIS or Services for Unix
from Microsoft, or install a 3rd party solution. I personally use something
called "Quick 'n Easy FTP Server 2.4" for my occasional ftpd needs on
Windows.

As for instructions, typing in "How to FTP" into google yielded a log of
good guides. You'll probably need to decide if your users will use the
command-line ftp client or something GUI like WS-FTP.

Hi,

Thanks for the response,

The "Quick 'n Easy FTP Server 2.4" doesn't seem to be available anymore or
at least every site I try and download I get the following.......

{{{{Bestand of map niet gevonden

You know where I can find this program? looks easy enough and without
knowing much at all about networking this may be just what I need. All I
want is to be able to setup a FTP for some of my clients to login to and
upload some backup files they have. Each client will have their on folder
and can only access that folder.

All the best,

SG

J9,

Forget last post, I found a newer version on Quick 'n Easy FTP Server and
this works fine. THANKS again for your help, it is much appreciated.

Is this Windows 2000 Pro,...or Windows 2000 Server?

What are some of the other conditions like:

Are the users on the same network, or different networks (like LAN -vs-
Internet)?

If different then which is on which side?

If the FTP Server going to be made available to the Internet via an Edge
Firewall?

FTP is not very secure because the credentials are passed in clear-text
across the wire, so all these things have to be considered.

I'm now using Quick 'n Easy FTP Server, so not sure about Firewall or how
secure it is.

How does one know if it's secure or better yet how do you sucure it?
