(1) This is the example of the first line of my doc set to outline

The basic answer to your question is that you need a hanging indent. If you
are using auto numbering or an autonumbered style, however, the indent will
be added by default--and it *must* be set in the Numbering dialog, not in
the Paragraph dialog.
