I am using an Epson R300 and have mainly been printing CDs/DVDs with black
text only, but.., i have noticed that the colour inks seem to be going down
too. I have been selecting the grayscale option too.

Surely it should not be doing this??, any ideas??

Many thanks,

Maybe it's mixing color into give you different shades of grey?

In last months PC-Pro review of some 12 leading printers Epson and others
admitted to using underprinting - this is printing black over a base colour.
Canon declined to comment. So maybe everything is not quite Black and
hite - just like life.

I have a Canon S600, and came across the same problem. I contacted Canon,
but they said to turn greyscale OFF (or something to that extent).

To make a long story short, I accidentally discovered that if you don't have
greyscale ON, the printer WILL use color to print lighter blacks.

In all, I gave up. I just ended up getting generic ink for the printer to
reduce costs. There was no way i'd waste $20Cdn per color when you can get
decent generic for $10. So far, no problems (knock on wood!)

So do they do this to get a particular effect, or to saturate the paper
and waste ink ?

Cheers, J/.
