I'm using Windows XP, the other machines are Windows 98.
I want to use the Network Wizard, but not sure what to do
first. Do I need to run the Windows XP Network Wizard
first on this machine, then configure the rest of the
machines on the network? Or run the Windows XP Network
Wizard last after configuring the 98 machines?

The network wizard in windows XP configures the other pc's
on the lan to obtain a dynamic IP adress from the computer
having windows XP...
You can bypass this wizard by simply attribuate a static
ip adress to all of the computers on the network...
To do this right click on my network places and choosing
properties...
select TCP/IP and click properties in the following
dialogue box... Each computer must have a unique adress of
type 10.0.0.X or 192.168.0.X you even have to configure
your subnet mask for this ip adress in the following way:

for an ip like 10.0.0.1 you have the subnet mask 255.0.0.0
for an ip like 192.168.0.1 you have the subnet mask
255.255.255.0
after restarting the win98 pc's you should be able to
communicate between the different pc's on the network

If you want to use the configuration wizard then run it
from the windows XP. During the wizard you will have to
insert a floppy disk in your drive so that windows XP can
put the necessary files on the disk to configure the other
pc's of your network...
