Hi,

first, this is for Outlook 2003 std English, windows XP sp1a with Exchange
2003.

I am using contacts that a colleague is sharing.

What I want to do is for this shared contact folder to appear in my outlook
address book. So when I want to write a new email, I click on "To" the
shared contact folder will be in the list of contact folders (which also
contains my contacts, the Global address book, public folder,...)

I tried to go in the properties of the shared contact folder but the
"outlook address book" tab is not there.

I also gave myself ownership permission on this folder but that did not
change anything.

Can anyone have an idea on how I could make this work?

Sharing many hundreds of contacts without being able to use them as my own
is not very useful.

Thanks for any help or ideas

You can use the Tools | Email Accounts wizard to add the Outlook Address Book to your profile. What kind of shared contact folder is this?

This is his regular contacts in his outlook address book.

If I go to Tools | Email Accounts wizard to add the Outlook Address Book to
my profile, I already have an "outlook address book" and adding a personnal
address book only give me the option to browse for a file.

Here is what I want to do in more details:

Again, this is with Exchange 2003, Office 2003 standard english.
There are 2 regular plain vanilla exchange accounts involved: mine and my
colleague's.
My colleague share his outlook contact folder and add me as a delegate that
have total control on the contacts (owner privilege)
I can now open my outlook and select the "Open shared Contacts" to add his
contact in my navigation pane.
I now have complete access to his contacts
His contact folder even appear under the "My contacts" in the navigation
pane.

Now, when I create a new email and I click on "To" to add a name, under
"Show Names from the" I want to see my colleague's contacts folder.
In this list, I can see my contacts folder, the global address list, etc...
but not his folder.
If I try the normal procedure to add folder to this list (right click on the
contact folder, properties, "outlook address book" tab and check "show this
folder as an email address book") it does not work because the "outlook
address book" tab is not there.

I'm looking for a way to add my colleague's contacts to my outlook address
book so I can use them as my own when I write email.

I know that I can go on the a contact and select "new email" from the menu,
but this is not a solution when I need to write to several people.
I could also copy them to a subfolder under my contacts, but this defeats
the "sharing" idea.

Any idea?

Thanks for the quick answers

Ah, you want to see a contact list from someone else's mailbox? That's quite a different (and complex) operation, that will probably require some additional cooperation from that person:

1. Start with a profile that logs directly onto the other user's mailbox, not your own.

2. On the Properties dialog for the other user's Contacts folder, make sure that it's set to display in the Outlook Address Book and give it a display name other than contacts, such as Joe's Contacts.

3. Close Outlook.

4. In Control Panel | Mail, edit the *same profile* to change the mailbox from the other user's to your own. On the Advanced tab of the Exchange Server service, add the other user's mailbox as a secondary mailbox.

5. Restart Outlook, and you should see the Joe's Contacts in your Outlook Address Book as well as your own Contacts folder.
