As a complete and frustrated new user of the CD
Rewritable facility, I am trying to record videos onto a
CD-R for playback on our home DVD player.

* I have recorded an MPEG1 file, and written it to the CD-
R using the CD Writer Wizard;
* The CD will not playback in the DVD player;
* I tried recording audio to the CD-R to see whether that
would work:
* The CD Wizard tells me to use a writable CD -
although the CD-R is still in the drive concerned;
* I try to delet the file on the CD-R, and get a
dialog box informing me that the file cannot be deleted
as it is a 'read-only' file;
* I cannot record other files as the same CD-r (with
only 20MB on) is either full or not writable.

I must be doing something basic wrong - but cannot figure
out what!

Can anyone help?

Take a stpe back and think about what you are doing and
what you are trying to accomplish. First, you cannot
delete files from a CD-R. If you formatted the CD using
Direct CD, you can appear to delete the files, but all
that happens is the space on the CD occupied by the file
is labeled as unusable. Second, a CD-R will not play in a
DVD player. You have to use additional softward to create
an SVCD disk out of the CD to make it playable in DVD
player. Even then the SVCD will play only in newer DVD
players. If you want to create true DVD disks, you will
need a DVD burner, blank DVD media and software that will
create the DVD files.
