I have win xp pro on my desktop and win home on my laptop both on a DSL network at home with the same router - sounds simple! I want to use my desktop for accessing progams etc. that my laptop doesn't have. My firewalls are down since it it set up with a dsl connection after the router.
I can access all the printers and files on my network but I get confused when I try and use the remote connetion and workgroups. 1. it says I need a terminal server ! 2. when I type \\ts ____ (I forgot what I typed) into the explorer I get a message for password and name which I don't have a password setup!
Which one was the right way to setup and
how do I do it at all ?

I am trying to do the same thing and have just got past that problem... Open "Control Panel" then select "System" then select the "Remote" tab and check the bottom box to enable remote access. That should get you past the problem you have at the moment - I'm still trying to get past the next stage...maybe you will have better luck.

Greg,
I've got it -I hope that you read this!
1. I did everything that was said down firewall, open remote accesses on both and than if you look carfully it said you must set up a password!! So I did set one for the computor that I wanted to access (Host).

Where I was was confused is filling in spaces for domain, workgroup-I knew what they are I just wasn't shure which ones they where looking for. All I used was the IP for my router, same workgroup on both, etc. all in the right combonation, ( i don't tghink that this was my problem.)

2. What also might have helped was setting up a DSN number for the Host. Go to my computor right click for properties.
Then go to computor name and click on to change fill out spaces and click on More. Then give the DSN a basic name so if
you see an entry later you'll have a better idea of what they are looking for when trying to connect. This was just a problem solving solution ! It might not be needed at all if you know more of Domains etc.

I think it was just the fact that you need a Password!!!
