Using remote assistance

Hi - I need to use remote assistance to help my mother. I am not really clear
on how this works. Can someone please point me in the right direction for a
tutorial or indepth instructions. I have read the help files and I still
don't understand. Also, I am not even sure it is possible as we are on
different internet service providers. Thank you so much for any assistance
you can offer.
