Using Refill Ink Cartridge

My Dell computer and printer are very mad at me, I used a refill cartridge
and they will recognize the refill. It tells me the tank is empty, but i
know better. I can hit the keep printing button but it would be helpful if
the tank showed ink usage. Can I "fool" the system? If there is a way, be
very specific I am new at this game. I am using Windows XP Home Edition SP2

Many/most modern printers now have intelligence in their cartidges
to detect refills, or so I've been told. Wonder if the ink refiller
industry knows that? Personally, after I've spent some bucks to get
a good printer - my current one is a Canon Pixma 6600 - and use
expensive paper, the last thing I want is not-so-great ink. Not to
say that refilled is or is not worse than Canon's own, may be
identical, I'd just rather not take the risk of damage to the
printer or just plain lousy output. Just my opinion, JMMV.

FWIW, I also have a Canon Pixma (a cheaper model). I use cheap
refilled cartridges I buy from LD Products, and I'm happy with the
results. No damage to the printer, and the output quality is fine.

I'm happy for you. As I said, just my opinion and obviously your
mileage does vary!

Understood. I was only suggesting that you might want to try it. The
risk of problems is slight, in my experience, but the potential
monetary savings are great.

But your choice, of course.

I think the Canon Pixma series are the best "bang-for-buck" printers out
there. Mine does amazing work in every function. I have owned printers
as recently as five years ago that I paid three times as much for that
weren't near as good.

Excellent software, too.

I agree. I knew I didn't want another HP because I don't like their
ink and I was dragging my feet about an Epson because they are so
slow when I benchmark them. Then, I saw the Pixma 6600 and was
amazed at both the picture quality and speed.

Enjoyed your discussion about Cannon printers, but you did not answer the
question. If there is a "knock out" or smart cartredge can you foll computer
or printer so that tank will show ink usage?
