Using query as subform sourceobject

I thought that starting in Access 2000 we could use queries as
sourceobjects of subforms? I swear I did it once. I see comments saying
both that you can and cannot do this in these newsgroups (with MVPs on
both sides). However I can't seem to do it *now* either by setting the
subform property manually or in code (Access 2000 sp3). Was this
capability removed at some point, or is my memory (and some of the MVPs)
wrong? I remember being rather astonished when I discovered that it was
possible. I will be amazed if that memory is totally in error. And no,
I'm not talking about a form in datasheet mode.

Nevermind... I see that while if you put "qryCustomer" into the
sourceobject property, Access is unhappy, but "query.qryCustomer" makes
it all work.
