Last year I bought a Compaq Presario 5000 running Windows
XP Home Edition and I haven't been able to print the
contents of a screen using Shift/Prt Scrn or Alt/Prt
Scrn. The subject is not addressed in either the
Microsoft Interactive Training Sessions, or the "Simply
Visual" manual I bought for the OS. I hate having to
print out pages of unwanted text, (or try to guess a page
number) when the info I want is covered in a couple of
paragraphs. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to do
this in XP?

With high hopes and many thanks, HelenSM

PrnScn does NOT send a copy of the screen to the printer and it is NOT
SUPPOSED it.

It sends a copy to the clipboard. You must then open a graphics program and
the PASTE that image to the screen. Save the file and then print it.

Thanks Cari,

Unfortunately, I'm old enough to look back longingly to
the good old days when all you had to do to print what
was on the screen was hit Shift+PrtScrn and the printer
did the rest. Those were the good old days -- before
Windows got too big and too cutesy for those of us who
cut our teeth on MS-DOS. Sure, remembering and
typing "path" could be a pain, but who needs to be
entertained by puppies with wagging tails while waiting
for a search?

Anyway, I do appreciate your taking the time to explain
the new, tho convoluted, procedure.

I come from DOS 3.2, then 5.0, 6.0, 6.2 and finally 6.22 before Windows 3.0,
3.1, 3.11 WFW and all the Win9x O/Ses before XP. I'd never go back to ANY
of them!
