I have three computers hooked up in a network through a router. The host
computer (Computer 1) is Windows 2000 and has installed on it a HP Deskjet
5900 printer (The printer is shared). The other computers - one is Windows
2000 (Computer 2) and the other is Windows XP (Computer 3). I installed the
printer on the Computers 2 & 3, and the printer worked but when you shut down
on Computer 3 you cannot access the printer. The printer is in the printer
setup but you cannot print to. All the computers have the same user name and
password. I have reinstalled the printer on Computer 3 but then again when
you shut down it seems to lose the connection. This is an XP computer.
I have re-installed the driver numerous times and nothing seems to correct
this. Is there something I am missing?

Can't you just plug the printer into the router also and use it on the
network? I may be misunderstanding but if the printer is hooked to computer
1 and is shared by it, when it's shut down it would lose its connection.
However, if you hook the printer to the router and essentially give it an IP
address, you should be able to print to it from any computer hooked to that
router - assuming the printer's on! :-)

(sorry.....long day already!) ;-)

Thanks for all your help. The printer has a USB port and not an ethernet
port so that solution won't work. I will try the other solution to remember
the password on the printer and see if that works. This printer is in one of
our branches out of town so I won't be able to get to it until next week. I
appreciate all the help.
Have a good day!!!!
