I have an older HP ScanJet 4100C and I use it to scan books. Each
press of the scan button, the software chooses this or that setting -
usually the wrong one - and I have to keep selecting the same things
all the time. (Change from "photo best" to "color drawing", etc.)

Is there third-party software that will work with a scanner, where you
can fix the default settings as you want, so you don't have to adjust
the settings for every page?

Thanks for reading...

Vuescan works with your 4100C. Download the demo and see if you can
configure it to do what you want.

If your scanner has a TWAIN compliant Driver, any Photo Editor with a TWAIN
import function will work.

The TWAIN driver should have every setting the scanner is capable of.

If you do a lot of repetitive scanning (same settings over and over
again). Then consider Art-Copy Scripting Edition.
(http://www.art-copy.com), it allows you to save scripts that run with
one double-click.

Its pretty nice at saving time and settings.
