using NLB for IIS

Chris

I have two servers running IIS with the same contents. Is NLB session aware
(is it called state full)? If not, can I still use NLB by setting it to only
access server 2 if server 1 is down? I read some documents but don't see
such setting. Actually how does it balance the access among servers?

Thanks.

Chris,
facilitating sessions in case of NLB is provided primarily through affinity
settings (as well as support for IPSec and VPN starting with Windows Server
2003). In general, however, you would want to preserve session information
in the third tier of your apps (e.g. clustered database server). For more
info, refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738968.aspx
Regarding ability to automatically redirect incoming requests to operational
nodes of NLB cluster, this is one of the built-in features - and the most
relevant benefits of NLB technology...
