Using multiple networks with one laptop

I have a laptop running Windows XP Pro that I use both at
home and at my office. The office network has a domain
server but I have a simple network at home with a
workgroup. How can I use the same computer on both
networks and see resources in both places? If the
computer joins the work domain I cannot see resources at
home. If I join the home workgroup I have to go to the
office IT manager to allow my computer to get back onto
the domain on the office network. Is there a solution to
this?

Just in case it helps, I use a wireless network at home
and the ethernet card in the office.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hi David,

In cases like these, what I normally do is to make the pc/laptop join a
workgroup (at work) with the same name as the domain, but you log onto your
local PC/laptop domain (the one that you have at home). In other words:

1) Ensure that both home user and work usernames and their passwords are
identical

2) Do not join the domain at work, but instead join a workgroup with the
same name as the domain, so if the work domain is company, join it as a
workgroup (you have to re-boot the pc by the way.

3) log on to your pc/laptop locally with the same password you would use in
the domain.

4) give your home workgroup name the same name as your work one.

It is a bit tedious, but it works, I hardly ever make a Win2k/WinXp join a
domain in such cases, even on my own network, all workstations are part of a
workgroup and not the domain. I have found that it works better, gives you
less problems especially when you have a Small business server network and
win XP machines.

I hope this helps
