I just purchased a new laptop that has Vista. I am also using MS Outlook
2002. AOL is my ISP. I use MS Outlook on my desktop that has Windows XP. I
don't have any problems on my desktop. When I put in all the specifications
for imap.aol.com in Vista, I was able to download the emails but when I tried
to open the emails, I got a message that imap.aol.com was offline. I was
online. Does anyone know what I need to do to correct the problem? A
discussion forum in AOL said that there is/was an update patch available thru
MS Update or Office update. Does anyone know anything about this?

You can click on the Help menu, then click on "Office on the web". From
there you can look for updates.
Outlook 2002 is also part of Office XP, so look under Office XP updates.
There is a Service Pack 3 available.
Automatic updates are available for Office beyond Office 2000. So I would
suggest you use that method to get your updates for Outlook 2002 (Office
XP).
I have several Office XP updates even though I only have Outlook 2002. These
updates downloaded and installed automatically (more or less).

All of my other Office applications are Office 2000, which I had to update
manually.
One exception is I also have OneNote2007.

Office XP is not supported in Vista. My understanding is that it is usable,
but that Outlook 2002 (part of Office XP) will not remember passwords. It
would be better for you to upgrade to the current version of MS Office -
Office 2007 or find a substitute that is supported in Vista.

See MVP Diane Poremsky's site - http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/vista.htm

Further questions about Outlook should be posted in an Outlook-specific
newsgroup. Here's a list of all the MS public newsgroups so you can find
the right one:

Thanks so much. Is it all right to download Service Pack 3 for XP onto my
laptop which has Vista?

You would only be able to download the full file......not sure what size
that is - usually pretty big....

That's what I did... downloaded the 316 MB file to my vista computer, and
copied it to my XP computer, and then installed it there.
