Is it possible to have powerpoint display a number of images from a CD,
one per page, without first inserting those images onto each page?

I would like a kind of a list of image filenames that Powerpoint reads and
then inserts the image as the slide is displayed. I can then show
different images and images in a different order by editing the list and
not by editing the powerpoint file.

Thanks

Hi Peter,

It could be done with VBA (macros) but not otherwise, at least not exactly
as you describe.

You could also use something like Shyam's image importer wizard to create
the show you need quickly from a set of images in a directory (
http://www.mvps.org/skp )

Or create a presentation with a series of slides containing linked images
(ie, linked to Image1.jpg, Image2.jpg and so on). Then you could copy the
image you want to use in place of Image1.jpg over the existing Image1.jpg
file and the new linked image would take the old image's place.

Thanks

I was hoping for a simpler solution. These are almost as easy/difficult as
creating a slide show in the usual manner.

I'm wondering if you are using the right application for what you want to
do? There are lots of free apps to simply display a list of pictures if
that is all you want. However, anything I can think of that allows
formatting, sizing, animations, text, etc. will have the same requirement to
insert the photos.

My simple way of doing this is to use the Power point
Album feature to add one image per page in a single batch,
usually 50-100 images, a very quich and easy procedure.

To display an individual image in show mode:

Method 1 -easy way
type in the page number then press enter key and that page
will be displayed. Type and print out a list of the slides
with corresponding page number and use to read off the
page needed.

Method 2 -a little more work but more elegant
type a list on page 1 of the presentation of the names of
images. Set an action setting for each name to link to the
page that image is on. When the mouse is clicked on the
text powerpoint will go to that page. Use an action
setting to return to the text list page to make the next
selection.
