I'm trying to create a new server based web site. I have Frontpage 2002 and
IIS 5.1. The web server is running. The 2002 extensions are installed. When I
try to create a new site at http://127.0.0.1/webname or with computer name
followed by webname Frontpage seems to make a connection (conncetion attempt
flashes) but the dialogue box remains and nothing ever happens. I tried
creating a disk based web and then publishing it to the server but it says
four things could be wrong,

1. Server extensions may not be installed. (they are)
2. Web server may be temporarily out of service (it's running, I think)
3. You are connecting through a proxy server (the server is just runningn on
my local machine)
4. An Error may have occurred on the web server (maybe)

I must have something configured wrong. Any suggestions out there?

thanks,

Mike

If you are running Windows XP Pro with IIS, you can on have a single root web, but a unlimited
number of subwebs. You must apply the extensions via IIS MMC to the root web, then you have to open
the root web in FP, then you can create folder, then convert the folder to a subweb, then you double
click to open the subweb.

Thanks for responding Thomas.

I'm sorry. This still isn't clear to me. I must be missing something. I did
apply the extensions to the root web via command line (owsadm.exe on port 80
which is the default and where I assume my server is running). In IIS I can
right click the default web and under "All Tasks" check the server
extensions. There are no errors.

I cannot open the rootweb (wwwroot) in Frontpage. I've tried these addresses:
http://127.0.0.1
http://127.0.0.1/wwwroot
http://computername
http://computername/wwwroot

The FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 use HTML-based administration tools.
Try this: Start | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Microsoft
SharePoint Administrator

You should have applied them via IIS MMC and you should have installed the FP2000 from the Windows
CD, then made sure they worked before upgrading to the FP2002 extensions.

The location would be either of the following for the rootweb:

http://127.0.0.1

or

http://computername
