Using IE with a LAN connection and a dialup connection

I have a user who is connected to our LAN and also has a
modem for a specific application. My question is:

Can the user be on both connections at the same time? What
seems to happen is the user dials up and then starts that
application. This works fine for that application but when
the user tries to use IE, the message says the page can't
be displayed.

Another question is if the user has an active dialup and
LAN connection, what connection will IE use?

Thanks in advance.

When you have a dial-up connection, "use default gateway on remote network"
in the Advanced TCP/IP Setting of the dial-up adapter is enabled by
default. You can uncheck this and the client will use the default gateway
of the NIC.
