Help. I needed a free email to use with various ISPs as I travel. I want to
use Windows Mail with this gmail. Set up gmail as follows:

Google Gmail Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port
995)
Outgoing Mail Server - use the SMTP mail server address provided by your
local ISP or smtp.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 465)

I get an error from WinMail.exe that says:

The server you are connected to is using a secure certificate that could not
be verified. The certificate CN name does not match the pass value.
Do you want to continue using this server?

I'm sure it's a setting some place but where. I do have the
"authentication" checked also.

I received your reply and tried to click on the link but got nothing but
blank. Can you try again or something.

If you answer "yes" to the question, what happens?

I can't even figure out how to read the replies. Please send a reply direct
to my email: (e-mail address removed). I still have that ISP

Thank you. Yes, checked time, date and time zone settings and it's ok.

Thank you for getting me into the newsgroup too. Now make my day and get my
gmail to send.

I keep getting the caption:

The server you are connected to is using a secure certificate that could not
be verified. The certificate CN name doesn not match the pass value.

Do you want to continue using this server.

Right now I have a total mess. I don't know where I am.

No, I will reply only to groups.

My CN does not the value. Do you want to continue to use. What can I do, have
read everything and it does not tell me what functions to carry out.

Diane,
I can't be sure, but I read it somewhere, sometime ago...... if you care to
give it a try :
Tools > Accounts > your gmail account > Properties > Security. Make sure
Certificate boxes are BLANK. > OK
Note : I wrote this out of memory. I could be way off.

In addition to t-4-2's advice, go to Tools, Options, Security, and make sure
the last two boxes are not checked.

For your information, gmail supports BOTH POP3 and IMAP.
Mine is set up in POP3 for 3 years, and it works just fine.
Are you able to show us a written document that says specifically gmail "
SHOULD BE " set up as IMAP, not POP3 ?
